Natalie Cox, PhD, MA, is adjunct faculty of anthropology at San Francisco City College and the California Institute of Integral Studies. Her doctoral research explored Bay Area African immigrants and asylum seekers' struggles with the US immigration system, in the context of bureaucratic backlogs, Bay Area gentrification, and increasingly racialized immigration politics.
For her Master's research in medical anthropology, she investigated the barriers to HIV/AIDS testing, counseling, and treatment faced by Francophone West African immigrants in the Bay Area. Natalie is committed to collaborative, applied anthropology and advocacy, and she has completed several community-based participatory research projects in partnership with the African Advocacy Network.
